Bookies have slashed odds on the Rams winning the title after stunning West Brom.
Frank Lampard’s side put four goals past high-flying West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Wednesday night. The Baggies had scored 19 in their previous five home league matches before slipping to a second consecutive defeat for the first time this season.
The Rams have now moved up to fifth in the Championship table, leapfrogging Norwich to sit just below West Brom on goal difference. They are just two points adrift of league leaders Leeds United.
Derby have accrued 22% of bets on the Championship Winner market over the last week, but a massive 47% in the last 24 hours following the result. The odds have more than halved overnight. Priced at 25/1 before the game in places, Derby are now as short as 9/1 with some bookies and available at a best price of 12/1.
Determined to quell any complacency, manager Lampard played down talk of a title challenge in his post-match interview:
"We're two points off the top boys but it's an unforgiving league and a long season. If we listen to any talk, that's our problem."
His side visit former leaders Middlesbrough on Saturday in a game that would certainly fuel the fire of title talk at Pride Park.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Frank Lampard is getting the best out of a fantastic crop of young players at Derby.”
“They were clinical against West Brom and they face another tough game against Boro this weekend. If they get a result at the Riverside they are serious contenders.”
