Ex-Swansea boss slashed from 10/1 to 4/6 to be next Saints manager

The 48-year-old is odds-on to take the helm at St Mary’s as Mark Hughes stares down the barrel.

Paulo Sousa has been cut from 10/1 to 4/6 in the last 24 hours to be named next Southampton manager.

The Portuguese, who got a taste for British football when managing the likes of QPR and Swansea, has received 41.4% of all bets in that time. That's three times as many as second favourite Garry Monk (7/2).

Mark Hughes’ days look numbered and he is now as short as 1/8 to be the next manager to go. This implies an 88.9% chance he will be relieved of his duties before any other Premier League boss.

Elsewhere, Quique Sanchez-Flores has received increased support in the last day, accruing 17.3% of bets. The ex-Watford manager is still available at 9/1 to take over at St. Mary's.

Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek: "Having only won once this campaign, Mark Hughes is lucky to have stayed in his job this long."

"Slumping to defeat against bottom side Fulham might prove to have been the nail in the coffin as the Saints face a scrap to stay in the Premier League."
