The Blues prevailed after a penalty shootout to set up a cup final with Manchester City.
Chelsea are being backed to win the EFL Cup after beating Tottenham Hotspur over two legs in their semi-final clash. Priced at 5/1 to win the competition outright before kick-off, they’re now as short as 6/4 and have received 58% of bets in the last 24 hours.
Manchester City remain clear favourites to lift the cup after a dominant, albeit less complex, run to the final. Priced at 1/2, they’ve received just 21% bets today, with punters seemingly put off by the short price.
Going into the Thursday evening tie a goal down from the reverse fixture, Chelsea dominated the first half of the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs were struck by injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli, as well as the absence of in-form attacker Heung Min Son, and the lack of firepower held them back in the first half.
N’Golo Kante gave his side the lead on the night, which was swiftly doubled when Eden Hazard stabbed home from close range. Fernando Llorente levelled the scores on aggregate to take the tie to a penalty shootout where Dier and Moura’s failed spot-kicks were enough to send them through.
Maurizio Sarri’s men will now face Manchester City in the final of the competition on 24th February at Wembley, after they trounced Burton Albion 10-0 on aggregate.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Manchester City are rightly heavy favourites to lift the EFL Cup, with Chelsea scraping past Spurs over two legs. However, the final will be a far cry from the Burton walkover for Guardiola's men.
“Punters don’t fancy the 1/2 on City, and with Pep’s eye still firmly on the title race, plenty will think it’s worth a punt on the underdog.”
