On Tuesday evening Frank Lampard was reported to be on the list of potential replacements for Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea. But despite being 33/1 best price he has received five times more bets than anybody else in the last 24 hours.
The Derby manager has the East Midlands side pushing for a play-off place in the Championship but could find himself in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat sooner than he or anyone else could have imagined.
The Blues legend dominates the betting from Oddschecker users, with Zinedine Zidane (incidentally the other person reported to be on the shortlist) lagging behind in second place with just 12% of total bets.
Zidane is 2/1 favourite and would be a marquee appointment, having won the Champions League three times in a row at Real Madrid.
Jose Mourinho is third most-backed at 7% and is 14/1 best price to make a remarkable third return to the place where he has enjoyed the most success in his managerial career.
Lampard has been asked about the potential Chelsea job before, stating: “Of course I have dreams, I want to manage a top club… and that will rely on how I do here (at Derby).”
Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “He’s hardly got any managerial experience and would be a completely different prospect than Chelsea’s usual appointment, but there’s no doubt that Lampard would get the fans on his side. How long for though, is another matter.”
