Sheffield United blow the Championship promotion race wide open

Sheffield United blow the Championship promotion race wide open

A massive win for the Blades at Leeds puts them in the top two.

Sheffield United are now second favourites for promotion (and as short as 1/3) after beating Leeds at Elland Road.

The Blades are now second in the Championship and just two points separate Norwich, Sheffield United and Leeds, with the Canaries playing later on in the day.

Leeds were 1/5 for promotion but that has drifted to 2/5 best price. A win would have put them five clear of third place but instead Chris Wilder’s team have made it wide open with just eight games to go.

In the title market, Norwich remain 5/6 but Leeds are now 10/3 best price after being 7/4 before kick-off. Sheffield United on the other hand were 5/1 but are now as short as 11/4

Since the final whistle on the game, 69% of bets have gone on United in the promotion market, and they may have timed their push for the Premier League to perfection.

Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “Chris Wilder said he’d have been happy with a point before the game, but they went one better and are now have their promotion destiny in their own hands. Any slip up from Norwich could also be punished and it would take a brave punter to predict the top two at this stage!”
