87% of bets on the market in the last 24 hours have gone on the Blues.
Following news that the club could be facing a 12-point deduction for breaching a transfer embargo, 12/1 Birmingham City have accrued 87% of bets on the Championship relegation market in the last 24 hours.
Only one bookmaker is currently offering odds on the Blues being relegated at 12/1, leading to a flurry of bets from punters reacting to media reports of an impending penalty.
Currently 13th in the Championship table on 50 points, a 12-point deduction would see Birmingham freefall into a perilous position just two points above the relegation zone.
However, the EFL decision depends on the result of a Disciplinary Commission investigationand it is possible the penalty would come into effect next season.
The signing of Danish full back Kristian Pedersen is reported to have come under scrutiny due to the club being under a transfer embargo as a result of overspending.
The three sides currently in the relegation places – Rotherham (10/11), Bolton (1/66) and Ipswich Town (1/100), remain odds-on to end up in League One.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "It wasn't so long ago that Birmingham fans were talking about a possible play-off berth, but things have spiralled since the Derby Day defeat to Aston Villa, and this off-pitch blow will not help matters on it.
"Suddenly the Blues might be fighting to stay in the league that they were trying to punch out of."
