Familiar faces top the market to turn things around for the Scots.
Scot Gemmill has emerged as the favourite to be the next Scotland manager following the sacking of Alex McLeish. The current under-21 coach holds a narrow lead at the top of the market at 2/1.
With 28% of bets on the market in the last 24 hours, the 48-year-old is also the punters’ pick.
David Moyes is next in the market at 7/2, having left his position as West Ham boss in May 2018.
Moyes had expressed a desire to return to club football, with the Celtic job a possibility. However, it’s looking increasingly likely that his country could come knocking instead.
Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke has steered his club to within touching distance of the top two in the SPL this season. He’s priced at 4/1 to take over the national side.
The market includes a host of more farfetched contenders, pulling in just about every Scot involved in the game. Neil Lennon (20/1), Ally McCoist (25/1) and Walter Smith (25/1) are just a few examples.
McLeish was sacked after a dismal 3-0 loss to Kazakhstan and a thoroughly unimpressive 2-0 win over San Marino in their Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Scotland fans breathed a sigh of relief today as McLeish was finally relieved of his duties after last month's shambles.
"Given the success England have enjoyed from promoting from within after a high profile calamity, Gemmill does seem the likely choice at this stage."
