Former England manager 3/1 to take Scotland job

Rumours suggest the veteran manager could be the man to replace Alex McLeish.

Ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is now 3/1 with one bookie to take over as Scotland manager, putting him third in the market alongside Slaven Bilic.

The Swede has denied having been contacted by the Scottish FA despite several reports to the contrary this morning. That might explain why he still sits at 10/1 best price.

Eriksson managed England between 2001 and 2006, part of a coaching career that spans 42 years. He was last seen managing the Philippines, leaving that job in February after a string of defeats in the Asian Cup.

The Scottish FA are on the hunt for a new manager for the national team following the sacking of Alex McLeish last week.

Under-21s boss Scot Gemmill remains the favourite at 6/4, while Steve Clarke (5/2) and Slaven Bilic (7/2) are the other front-runners.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Sven-Goran Eriksson's last few jobs read Philippines, Shenzen, Shanghai and Guangzhou so you would hope that he'd be keen to get the Scotland job.

"However, the Swede was popular during his time as England manager, and will at least lift some of the clouds hanging over Hampden Park with his charisma and charm."
