The Sheffield Wednesday gaffer is as short as 1/2 to take over at the Toon
Steve Bruce has been unanimously cut by every single bookmaker offering odds on the next Newcastle manager, and is now odds-on to succeed Rafa Benitez.
A wave of money yesterday has seen Bruce’s price tumble from 50/1 into 4/6 to be the next boss in the St James’ dugout.
That’s resulted in the ex-Sunderland manager going clear at the top of the market, ahead of second favourite Jose Mourinho (11/1).
Despite signing a new three-year at Sheffield United, Chris Wilder is third-favourite at 16/1 to take over, followed by ex-Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta (16/1).
Former Manchester United manager David Moyes is 20/1 to be installed as the next Toon boss, with John Terry drifting out to 20/1 best price.
Despite having been ruled out by sources at the Newcastle Chronicle, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is 33/1 to take over, followed by Mark Hughes at the same price.
Rangers gaffer Steven Gerrard has slid out to 50/1 following reports he’s turned interest down from the Tyneside club and previous favourite Gennaro Gattuso is the same price.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “You have to feel for Newcastle fans in the current climate.
“Within the space of a couple of weeks, the Toon Army have went from a Champions League-winning manager and the prospect of a takeover – to Steve Bruce being favourite to take over and Mike Ashley seemingly up to his old tricks.
“A flood of bets were placed yesterday on Bruce being appointed, attracting 67% of all bets the market over the last 24 hours. This is definitely one to keep an eye on.”
