Flood of bets placed on Newcastle relegation following Steve Bruce appointment

Over half of all bets in the last 24 hours have backed the Toon to go doon

A betting spree has taken place on Newcastle United to be relegated from the Premier League, following the appointment of Steve Bruce.

In the last 24 hours, 51% of all bets in the market have backed Newcastle for the drop, with their price crumbling much similar to their fan base.

The Toon have been cut from 5/1 into 11/4 to be relegated to the Championship following the 19/20 season, with money continuing to pour in.

That means Newcastle are now the sixth favourites to go down this year, only sitting behind the likes of Aston Villa (9/4), Brighton (2/1), Burnley (2/1), Norwich (1/1) and Sheffield United (10/13).

Steve Bruce opened up as a 20/1 shot to be named the next Newcastle manager, before shortly shortening to 1/25. A small spate of bets were placed yesterday on Bruno Genesio taking over but to no avail.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “As underwhelming managerial appointments go, Newcastle's acquisition of Steve Bruce is right up there.

Over half of all bets for Premier League relegation have been placed on the Magpies in the last seven days, and the former Sunderland boss will have his work cut out winning over the Toon fans - who are still reeling from Rafa Benitez's untimely demise."
