The Gunners are still favourite to sign the attacker, but have drifted this morning.
Arsenal could pay the price of trying to be too meagre with their transfer kitty, as Premier League rivals Everton make a move on their main target.
It looked destined that Wilfried Zaha would make the short trip across London and join the Gunners, but it seems Arsenal have refused to come anywhere near Palace’s asking price. Which now looks a costly move.
Despite Arsenal still being favourites for the Palace winger, Everton’s odds of snatching the maverick have been slashed dramatically this morning.
Two bookmakers on Oddschecker have trimmed the odds from 8/1 to 3/1 for Zaha to join the Toffees.
Plenty of people will question whether Everton have the budget to complete such a move, especially after already signing Fabian Delph. However, they’re forgetting the Merseyside club splashed almost £50 million on Sigurdsson, £35+ million on Richarlison and £31+ million on Lukaku.
Everton aren’t messing around in this transfer market, and with other players like Danny Rose still linked to the club, bookie have gone as short as 11/1 for a top four finish.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Arsenal fans are hoping an attractive new kit isn’t the only bit of good news they get this summer.
“With fans locked into a war of words with owner Stan Kroenke, it would be a huge let down to miss out on number one target Zaha, especially to a club that could be pushing for the top four in the coming season.”
