Liverpool and Man Utd set for transfer shootout over exciting winger

Bookies slash odds on one of Europe's most-wanted heading to the Premier League.

Odds have tumbled on Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe joining either Liverpool or Manchester United in this transfer window.

Priced at 9/1 in places until yesterday, Liverpool are now 3/1 favourites to sign him.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have been hammered in from 20/1 as far as 11/4 since the end of last week.

The reaction from bookmakers comes after Lille President Gerard Lopez reportedly told the press a deal for the player was almost complete.

Those comments prompted a flood of activity in the market, with 46% of bets on Man Utd and 27% on Liverpool in the last 24 hours.

The 24-year-old has also been heavily linked with a move to Napoli, odds-on a few days ago with one bookmaker. However, the Serie A club are now 7/2 best price to capture Pepe’s signature.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Nicolas Pepe bagged 22 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season, second only to Kylian Mbappé in the race for the golden boot.

“There’s no denying Pepe played a crucial role in Lille’s impressive second place finish in the league and at the age of 24, he looks worthy of a big money move to England.”
