Four out of the top six favourites are Liverpool players
Liverpool centre back Virgil van Dijk is the clear odds-on favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, following Liverpool’s Super Cup win last night.
The Dutch dynamo is 8/13 to win the most prestigious individual award in world football, edging ahead of five-time winner Lionel Messi at the bookmakers.
The Barcelona forward is 3/1 to win his sixth this year, ahead of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker (16/1) and Cristiano Ronaldo (20/1).
Sadio Mane (33/1) is the third Liverpool in the top five favourites, with yet another in the form of Mohamed Salah (33/1) who follows shortly after.
That means that outwith Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the top end of the market is almost solely made up of Jurgen Klopp's men.
Van Dijk is the punters' pick for the award too, attracting 53% of all bets in the last 24 hours.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “It's been many years since we've seen a centre-back as dominant as the colossus that is Virgil Van Dijk.
“The transformative impact the Dutchman has had on this Liverpool side - the primary catalyst for them winning the Champions League - should see him net this year's Ballon d'Or.”
