The Chelsea youngster has made an impressive start under Frank Lampard.
Bookmakers have cut odds on Chelsea starlet Mason Mount getting a place in England’s initial 23-man Euro 2020 squad.
Having been priced at 15/2 last week, the 20-year-old is now just 7/2. That puts him just behind Jack Grealish (2/1), who at the weekend extended his unwanted record of consecutive Premier League losses as a player.
Having played under Frank Lampard’s stewardship on loan at Derby County, Mount is already enjoying plenty of game-time now the pair have been reunited in the blue colours of Chelsea.
The youngster scored a hard-fought goal in the seventh minute of his Premier League home debut in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Sunday.
Mount was a key player for Derby last season, scoring 11 times from midfield. That campaign has already earned him a full England call-up and plenty are expecting him to force himself into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 plans this season.
With Chelsea at the mercy of a transfer ban, manager Frank Lampard is likely to entrust his younger players and he rates Mount very highly.
Teammates Ross Barkley (5/6) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (5/6) are also fancied to make the squad, though the latter will have ground to make up after his long injury lay-off.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Rifling his Super Cup penalty into the top corner and hounding the Leicester defence to bag his first senior goal at Stamford Bridge, Mason Mount certainly isn’t short of confidence.
“Lampard is already a big fan of Mount from his time at Derby, and should he keep repaying him like he did on Sunday, the 7/2 about a Euro 2020 spot could look a huge price come the end of the season.”
