Poch botch: 66% of bets back Spurs boss to leave following Colchester debacle

The Argentine is now the third favourite to go next.

A flurry of bets have been placed on Mauricio Pochettino being the next Premier League manager to leave his post, following Spurs’ defeat to Colchester last night.

In total, 66% of all bets in the last 24 hours have backed the Argentine to leave the North London club before the rest of his managerial cohort.

That’s resulted in odds being cut from 14/1 before last night’s Carabao Cup tie, into as short as 5/1 following Spurs’ shock penalty shoot-out loss to the League Two side.

In turn, that means he’s overtaken Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the second favourite with a number of British bookmakers, who have made him second favourite in the market.

With both Ladbrokes and Coral, Pochettino now only trails Marco Silva in the sack race, with the Everton manager now 6/4 clear favourite at the top of the pile.

Spurs’ defeat to Leicester at the weekend means they’ve drifted from 16/1 pre-season, all the way out to 66/1 to win the Premier League.

They’ve also significantly drifted in their attempt to stay in the top four, from 1/4 out to 4/6 to be playing Champions League football again next season.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “After a fairly abject start to their Premier League season, Spurs' woeful display at Colchester ensured another trophy has slipped through Mauricio Pochettino's fingers.

“The wait for silverware has now extended to 11 years, and it seems fans and punters alike sense the clock is ticking for the Argentine to deliver tangible glory."
