Sack race: Steve Bruce overtakes Ole Gunnar Solskjær following Leicester humiliation

Newcastle are now clear favourites for relegation

Odds have been slashed on Steve Bruce being the next manager to leave, following Newcastle United’s 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Leicester City.

Bookmakers have unanimously slashed odds from 14/1 before the weekend, into 4/1 as of this morning (September 30th).

That’s due to heavy flow of money following yesterday’s defeat at the King Power, a whopping 73% of all bets in the market backing Bruce to be handed his jotters.

In return, previous red-hot favourite Marco Silva has drifted in the market, from 6/4 out to 9/4, as stakes turn towards to Tyneside, rather than Merseyside.

Elsewhere, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been pushed out to 6/1, followed by Mauricio Pochettino (9/1), Quique Sanchez Flores (12/1) and Dean Smith (16/1).

The betting markets, in general, don’t make for great reading for Toon fans at the moment, as Bruce’s side cemented their spot as clear favourite to be relegated.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "Newcastle's horrendous league form isn't coming as a surprise to many, as Steve Bruce continues to flounder in his dream job.

“Newcastle were priced at 11/8 to be relegated before the weekend, although that’s now odds-on with at least 20 British bookmakers.

“All in all, Mike Ashley's purse-string preserving gamble is appearing to backfire."
