Manchester United have 'no strengths' according to WhoScored statistics

The odds and stats are stacked against them ahead of Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

Manchester United go into Sunday's clash with league leaders Liverpool in a sorry state. Priced at a massive 9/2 at home to their bitter rivals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appear to have little chance of overcoming their odds.

Not only are the Red Devils a huge price for Sunday's match, they are also a statistical underdog on every level.

This is according to WhoScored.com characteristics, which calculate and compare the strengths and weaknesses of teams in comparison with rivals in their league. There are a number of statistics taken into account in key categories related to style of play and previous matches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side don't have any statistical strengths in this model. Though they only have one weakness, it's a pretty important one - 'finishing scoring chances'.

Their opponents come into this game unbeaten and clear at the top of the Premier League by eight points, while United sit 15 points lower in 12th position.

The mood surrounding Old Trafford is reflected in the betting, with 56% of bets going on Liverpool, despite what would usually be a temptingly chunky price on the home side.

While every other Premier League club has at least one statistical positive, United don't score significantly above the average in any of the categories analysed by WhoScored.

They are one of only three teams of the 98 in Europe's top five leagues without a statistical strength to their name at this point.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool boast eight of these significant strengths. The 4/6 favourites are expected to prove far too much for their beleaguered rivals on Sunday.
