Flurry of bets on Unai Emery being next Premier League manager to LEAVE

65% of bets in the last 24 hours have backed the Gunners boss to go next.

A spate of bets have been placed on Unai Emery being the next Premier League manager to leave their post, following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat away at Sheffield United.

In total, 65% of all bets over the last 24 hours have backed Emery to leave before the rest of his Premier League colleagues, with money continuing to be placed on the Spaniard.

That’s resulted in some bookmakers slashing odds on Emery leaving, with a number of firms cutting odds in more than half from 40/1 into 16/1. The best price of 33/1 is with Betway.

Elsewhere, Everton boss Marco Silva remains favourite in the market, despite winning at the weekend, at 3/1, followed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at 7/2.

Emery’s North London nemesis Mauricio Pochettino is under pressure in the third favourite at 7/2, with Southampton gaffer Ralph Hasenhuttl following next at 16/1.

Newcastle’s Steve Bruce is next in the running at 25/1 alongside Quique Sanchez-Flores (25/1), who are the only managers ahead of Emery in the market.

Arsenal have earned a significantly lower statistical rating from WhoScored.com in the Premier League under Unai Emery's tutelage (6.78) than in the club's final season under Arsene Wenger (6.92).

The team are scoring fewer goals per game (1.83 down from 1.95) and conceding the exact same amount (1.34 per game). The Gunners have averaged significantly fewer shots under Emery (12.4 down from 15.6) and are conceding more shots to boot (13.7 up from 11.1).

Average possession, pass accuracy and passes per game figures have also fallen, with just one real improvement during Emery's time at the helm.

The signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, in particular, has seen a substantial increase in conversion rate (15 per cent up from 12 per cent). However, given the drop off in the vast majority of statistical categories that highlight just how often the striker has bailed the team out following mediocre performances.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “After putting in an away performance worryingly akin to those dished up regularly during the latter years of Arsene Wenger, it comes as no surprise that Unai Emery is starting to feel the heat.

“The Gunners were typically lightweight, wayward and bereft of ideas against Sheffield United on Monday night, and with no discernible improvement evident following Wenger's departure, it's only a matter of time before the Emirates Stadium faithful lose patience entirely.”
