The odds are not moving in favour for the Old Trafford faithful…
It’s not been the most exciting month for football fans across the globe, with very little ‘sagas’ permeating the transfer window.
However, the closest thing we have to a bona fide Hazard-esque 2012 scenario is Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes and his links with Manchester United.
But will the Red Devils sign the creative midfielder they’re desperately crying out for? We’ve taken a look at the odds to see what the bookmakers think.
The bad news – for United fans – is that the odds on the move coming to fruition are gradually lengthening by the day.
At the very start of the month (06/01/2020), United were 4/1 to sign the Sporting Lisbon star.
That price quickly evaporated and was cut into odds-on (1/4) that Ed Woodward would be able to persuade the 25-year-old to join the Premier League side.
Those odds were cut even further into 1/16 that United got their man, before being chopped again into 1/20 on the 18th January.
However, that marked the shortest price the transfer would drop to, and has since been drifting ever since.
The day after that, bookies adjusted the market to 3/10 best price, with money cooling on a potential move.
On the 20th of this month, the price was moved all the way into just 4/6 that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would add Fernandes to the squad, indicating a 60% chance of landing him.
Looking at the current odds of whether the midfielder will join, the best price available is now 1/3. In percentage chances, that’s a 75% implied chance of the move happening.
But what kind of player would United be getting? Well, we asked our pals at WhoScored.com for the lowdown.
They revealed that Fernandes has had direct involvement in 48 goals in 49 league appearances – a quite startling stat.
In total, the midfielder scored 28 goals and registered 20 assists over the time period.
