Nottingham Forest favourites to sign Dwight Gayle

Nottingham Forest favourites to sign Dwight Gayle

Promotion-chasing Forest look to bolster their attack.

Out-of-favour Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle is as short as 5/4 to join Nottingham Forest before the January transfer window slams shut.

The 29-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by this season, and the odds imply a 44% chance of a move down to the Championship.

Forest are currently 3rd in the Championship, just two points off the automatic promotion places, and boss Sabri Lamouchi will be all too aware of Gayle’s goalscoring prowess at that level.

The former-Crystal Palace man scored 23 league goals for West Brom in the second-tier last season, and there’s no doubt he’d push Forest to the next level should the sign him.

The Baggies are next in the market to re-sign Gayle at 10/1, while Sheffield Wednesday are all the way out at 16/1.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “You can’t get promoted from the Championship without a serial goalscorer, and it now looks as if Forest could have two on their books.

Lewis Grabban already has 16 goals this season, and complimenting this return with Gayle’s quality is a scary proposition for the rest of the division.
