Underdogs roar in Spain: 443/1 four-fold lands in Copa del Rey quarter-finals

The four remaining teams in the Copa del Rey are Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, Granada and Mirandes.

An unlikely bunch, considering the quarter-final opponents they overcame were Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Villareal.

If punters fancied backing the four winning sides before the first game kicked off, the price difference on the four-fold was eye-watering.

The best odds on offer for the accumulator on Oddschecker at the time were 443/1, while the worst was way down at 336/1. That’s a £1,070 difference off a £10 stake.

The odds movement in the outright market is pretty staggering too. Back in December when the tournament started, the now semi-finalists were complete outsiders. Real Sociedad (66/1), Athletic Bilbao (25/1), Granada (150/1) and Mirandes (2000/1).

Granada got the upsets under way with a 2-1 victory at home to Valencia on Tuesday. Mirandes are currently 11th in the Segunda Division, but they stunned a Villareal side who are have a shot at European football in their sights.

The two highest-profile games began with an incredible clash at the Santiago Bernabeu yesterday. A late charge from La Liga leaders Real Madrid wasn’t enough to overcome visitors Real Sociedad, who prevailed 4-3.

To cap off the series of shocks, the final team to book their place in the semi-finals were Athletic Bilbao. A Sergio Busquets 93rd minute own goal secured the fate of Barcelona.
