Is the thirty-year wait about to come to an end?
After a long-awaited return, the Premier League will be back on our screens on the 17th of June and all of the 92 remaining games will be televised for our viewing pleasure with over a third of them available to watch for free.
The past months have been filled with controversy and dispute over what should happen in regards to the outcome of the 2019/20 Premier League season, with a vast portion of the UK wanting a ‘null and void’ result and to start the new season in August once again.
A null and void outcome would, of course, mean no clubs get relegated, but also mean no one wins the league, which may be what a lot of football fans were after to taunt Liverpool even more after their thirty-year wait for a league title seemed like it was inevitably coming to an end.
However, the Premier League has, of course, announced its return dates and alongside that bookmakers are pricing up results and Liverpool have been put as far as 1/1000 to win the Premier League at best odds!
To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of a 99.9% chance of clinching the Premier League trophy.
Man City are second-favourites, to no surprise, after their previous back-to-back title successes. Pep Guardiola’s side are now being offered at the best price of 50/1 to make it three-in-a-row.
With less than ten games left to go for Liverpool and already being 25 points clear, Klopp’s Redmen are on the cusp of being crowned champions.
Conveniently coinciding with the fact they only need to win one or two games is that their third game back would see them face Man City. Where, of course, they would receive their guard of honour as the new Premier League champions-elect if they were to succeed in winning their first two games upon returning.
Liverpool return to action on the 21st of June and they are playing Everton in the Merseyside derby, one of the most anticipated derbies of the football calendar.
As much as it would be a perfect ending for Liverpool to receive a guard of honour at the Etihad after narrowly missing out to City by a single point the season prior, it is sure to say no one would like to spoil the party more than Everton by causing an upset in the first game back.
