Punters think he could be playing alongside VVD next season...
A flurry of bets have been placed on Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly joining Liverpool this summer, amidst reports of a £90m deal.
Over the last 24 hours, a whopping 71% of all bets in the market has backed Liverpool, with a further 55% of bets over the last week.
That’s resulted in bookies cutting odds into as short as 15/8 that the transfer happens this window, although the best price of 5/1 is still available.
The Reds are now the third most likely destination for the defender, with bookies still making it odds-on (9/10) that he stays at Napoli.
Manchester United are the clear second-favourites in the market at 3/1, in dire need of a commanding centre back.
Liverpool are next in the market alongside PSG at 5/1, then comes Premier League side Newcastle, who are now just 6/1 to sign Koulibaly.
Bayern Munich are the next most likely option at 9/1, followed by Barcelona (10/1) and Man City (10/1).
Leading football stats providers, WhoScored.com, revealed that only Milan Skriniar (5916) has made more accurate passes than Koulibaly (5817) since the start of the 2017/18 Serie A season.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Liverpool have looked nigh-unbeatable this season, so the thought of partnering Virgil van Dijk with another colossus in the shape of Kalidou Koulibaly is a terrifying prospect.
“Some will feel the big-money move would be a harsh step for Jürgen Klopp to take in terms of Joe Gomez's development, although as we all know in football, there's no room for sentiment.”
