It looks like a two-horse race, according to the bookies
Former England international manager Steve McClaren has been cut into the odds-on favourite to be named next Dundee United manager.
A flood of bets on the appointment has seen McClaren’s price drop dramatically, cut from 6/1 into 1/3 clear favourite.
In the last 24 hours, 62% of all bets in the market have backed the former Three Lions gaffer to take over at Tannadice.
That means McClaren has now overtaken previous favourite, Malky Mackay, with the performance director of the SFA now the 15/8 second favourite.
Mackay has attracted 18% of all bets in the same time period.
There’s then a drop off to the next most likely candidate, according to the bookies, with former St Johnston boss Tommy Wright next at 12/1.
Leading football stats site, WhoScored.com, revealed that a seven-match losing streak in 2018/19 at QPR - his last work in management - was the longest run of its kind in the Championship that season
Austin MacPhee is 16/1, then comes Barry Robson (20/1), Craig Levein (20/1), Jon Daily (20/1) and Lee McColloch (20/1).
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "With suitors south of the border seemingly not forthcoming, it appears that Steve McClaren's immediate future lies in Scotland.
"Dundee United are an exciting prospect at the moment with their return to the Scottish Premiership, and McClaren is no stranger to a diverse set of clubs.
"The ex-England boss has endured a string of failures in recent years, but a new league with new footballing culture could be just what gets Schteeve back on track."
