Could the former Brighton boss be the man for the job?
Chris Hughton has surged into a strong favourite to be named next Bristol City manager, following a flutter of bets on his appointment.
On the 4th July, Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe started out as 1/1 favourite to get the job but was quickly overtaken by Chris Hughton.
Hughton started the day that Lee Johnston was sacked as 8/1 for the job. By the end of the day, the former Brighton manager was 6/4 favourite.
That position in the market has grown even stronger, with a spate of bets pushing his price down to as short as 8/15.
One firm is still offering odds of 6/5 that Hughton takes over the Robins, although that still makes him favourite.
In the last week, a whopping 51% of all bets have backed Hughton. Over the last 24 hours, 72% of all bets have backed the 61-year-old.
Lowe has slipped to 6/1 second favourite in the race, with Steven Gerrard the latest to have his odds cut – from 12/1 into 8/1.
Michael Flynn is 14/1, as is Dean Holden (14/1), Michael Appleton (14/1), Gary Monk (16/1) and John Terry (16/1).
Leading football stats site, WhoScored.com, revealed to Oddschekcer that no team conceded fewer goals than Brighton (40) in the 2016/17 Championship season when they won promotion under Hughton.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "After doing such an excellent job at Brighton, Chris Hughton is a man many Championship clubs have been chasing, and it's looking like Bristol City are the lucky ones to snap up his signature.
"Hughton's record at this level speaks for itself, and he'll feel he has the ability to take this talented Robins squad to the next level."
