Toon going doon: Odds slashed on Newcastle relegation following takeover news

It looks like Coutinho and Bale won't be joining after all.

Odds have been dramatically cut on Newcastle United being relegated, following the news of a failed takeover bid.

Just this morning, Newcastle were 5/1 for relegation, but that’s been cut to as short as 5/2 with some bookmakers.

They've been hammered by punters over the last hour, with the Magpies accounting for a whopping 92% of all bets in the time frame.

Elsewhere, West Brom are favourites to go down at 11/10, followed by Aston Villa (9/4), Crystal Palace (5/2) and Brighton (3/1)

Leading football stats site, WhoScored.com, revealed that under Mike Ashley, it took Newcastle 12 years to break their club transfer record (Michael Owen in 05 to Joelinton in 2019).

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "After all the hope, all the excitement and all the fervour on Tyneside, Newcastle United are seemingly back to square one as far as a takeover is concerned.

"Magpies fans, who will have been dreaming of life post-Mike Ashley, will now once again enter the new Premier League season with relegation a worrying possibility."
