The Dutchman’s departure could pave the way for Thiago Alcantara’s arrival at Anfield.
Over the past few days Barcelona have been cut from 5/1 into even money favourites to sign Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool.
The 29-year-old is yet to agree a new deal with the Premier League champions and new Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is said to be eager to bring the Dutch international to Camp Nou.
Wijnaldum joined Liverpool for £23million from Newcastle United back in 2016. He’s since made nearly 200 appearances for the club and played a crucial role in their Champions League and Premier League triumphs.
Reports have been linking Liverpool with Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara for the whole summer, and though it isn’t confirmed, it might be that one transfer would open the door for the other.
Liverpool had been as short as 1/6 to sign Thiago, but have since drifted to 4/6, while rivals Manchester United have shortened to 3/1.

According to the bookies there’s no other club in the running to sign Wijnaldum, with Bayern Munich second favourites at 16/1. They’re followed by Juventus and PSG at 20/1 before boyhood club Feyenoord at 25/1.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “The furore surrounding Lionel Messi’s seemingly imminent departure is consuming all the media coverage of Barcelona at the moment, but this certainly looks like a deal that would be both feasible and sensible.”
