A 100/1 shot has placed in 11 out of the last 18 seasons
When it comes to individual accolades, there aren’t many bigger for any Premier League player than winning the coveted Golden Boot.
But who is the favourite to finish as Top Goalscorer this year? Oddschecker has taken a look at the market, ahead of the return of domestic action this weekend.
For yet another year running, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah sits atop the market, but this time he has company.
Salah (11/2) and Arsenal hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (11/1) hare the spoils as joint-favourites in the odds pile.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is a shade longer than the aforementioned, currently priced as 6/1 third favourite.
Chelsea new boy and former Bundesliga bagsman Timo Werner is currently 9/1 in the betting, with Sergio Aguero (9/1) the only other striker in single figure odds.
There’s then a jump to the Argentines’ club teammate, Raheem Sterling, who is just outside the top five favourites at 14/1.
Sadio Mane was arguably Liverpool’s player of the season last campaign and finds himself at a punchy 16/1 to finish with the most goals.
According to football whiz Mark O’Haire, a 100/1 shot has placed in the Premier League’s Top Goalscorer market in 11 of the past 18 seasons.
When looking towards the bottom end of the market, and keeping that stat in mind, Sheffield United’s new man (and Championship top scorer) Ollie Watkins is 100/1.
Newcastle’s new star striker, Callum Wilson, is also 100/1 in the betting, whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic (100/1), Michail Antonio (150/1) and Jarrod Bowen (250/1) are all available at astronomical odds each-way.
