Sack race: Jose Mourinho cut from 33/1 to 8/1 second-favourite for first Premier League manager to leave

Pochettino is joint-favourite to come back to North London...

Tottenham’s disastrous opening day home defeat has resulted in major bookies slashing odds on Jose Mourinho being the first Premier League manager to leave.

Since the 1-0 defeat in North London, bookmakers have cut odds from 33/1 into just 8/1 that Mourinho leaves Spurs before any other boss is sacked.

That’s because punters have been hammering the Champions League winning manager to do exactly that, attracting 31% of all bets within the market, in the last 24 hours.

It means Mourinho only trails David Moyes as the favourite to be first out the door, with the West Ham manager currently 2/1 market leader.

Fulham’s 3-0 opening day defeat to Arsenal has resulted in Scott Parker’s odds being cut from 10/1 into 8/1, whilst previous favourite Roy Hodgson has drifted from 6/1 out to 9/1.

Slaven Bilic is 14/1 in the sack race, followed by Sean Dyche (16/1), Dean Smith (16/1) and Steve Bruce (18/1).

When looking at a potential replacement for Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino is currently joint-favourite to be Spurs' next manager at 9/1, alongside ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe (9/1).

Leading football stats site,, revealed that since his appointment last November, only Liverpool (68), Manchester City (56) and Manchester United (50) have picked up more Premier League points than Tottenham (45).

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “It's amazing how quickly things change in football.
After ending last season so strongly, many were feeling positive about Spurs and Jose Mourinho this season, but one poor performance and result has seen the negativity return with a vengeance.

“While Spurs were atrocious against Everton on Sunday, it's unlikely Mourinho will be next in line for the chop, particularly with so many other sack race candidates in the mix.
