Next Salford City manager odds: Warren Joyce favourite with Roy Keane close behind

Co-owner Paul Scholes has taken over caretaker charge of Salford City after they sacked manager Graham Alexander.

Warren Joyce is currently the 2/1 favourite to take over as the permanent Salford City manager, after the League Two club sacked manager Graham Alexander.

Co-owner Paul Scholes has taken over as caretaker boss of Salford City, who earlier announced they had parted ways with Graham Alexander. That news comes with the club fifth in the League Two table and unbeaten in the league so far this season.

Salford lose patience with Graham Alexander

Alexander seems to have been under pressure since the club didn’t live up to expectations last season, sat outside the play-off places when the campaign was cut short. High profile owners come with high standards for the club and they’re now looking elsewhere.

Warren Joyce currently manages the Salford City Development Squad, so would be a logical choice to take over permanently. The 55-year-old previously managed the Manchester United Reserves before spells at Wigan Athletic and Melbourne City.

BBC Sport reported that Joyce would have likely taken over as caretaker manager rather than Paul Scholes, but he's currently having to isolate.

Roy Keane second favourite for permanent job

Scholes isn’t expected to be in charge of the side for long, and is priced way out at 8/1 to take over permanently (completing at least 10 games in charge). His former teammate Roy Keane is much shorter in the market. The Irishman is as short as 11/4 second favourite in places, and a best price of 4/1.

Former Huddersfield Town and Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley is another in the running according to the bookies, at a best price of 9/2.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "The news that Graham Alexander had left Salford City came as a shock, considering he led the club to promotion to the EFL and had started this season well enough.

"Salford fans will be glad to see interim boss Paul Scholes a fairly big price in the market to take over permanently. His last spell in management, at Oldham Athletic, lasted just 31 days."
