Next Celtic manager odds: Eddie Howe clear favourite, Gordon Strachan also cut

Next Celtic manager odds: Eddie Howe clear favourite, Gordon Strachan also cut

The former Bournemouth manager is being tipped for the Celtic job as pressure mounts on Neil Lennon.

  • Eddie Howe was cut to clear favourite to be the next Celtic manager early last week.
  • Ex-Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has also shortened in the market.
  • Celtic boss Neil Lennon is under significant pressure with his team trailing Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and bottom of their Europa League group.

Next Celtic manager odds: Eddie Howe is the 11/10 favourite to get the job

Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is the clear favourite to be the next Celtic manager, at a best price of 11/10. He was cut from 5/1 early last week.

That market’s been getting plenty of attention as a result of Celtic’s disappointing recent form. The Scottish Champions were sent to the bottom of their Europa League group last night following a calamitous 4-1 defeat at home to Sparta Prague.

Neil Lennon was already coming under pressure from fans this season, with his side nine points adrift of bitter rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and having lost the Old Firm.

Celtic had managed to end a four-game run without a win when they overcame Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final last weekend, but the spotlight’s right back on Neil Lennon after their woeful display in Europe.

Gordon Strachan has also shortened while Moyes is a contender

Elsewhere in the market, ex-Celtic boss Gordon Strachan was cut to joint-second favourite. His odds were slashed from 12/1 to 5/1 around the same time as the Howe movement last week.

Strachan won three consecutive league titles in his four years at the club, before leaving in 2009 after failing to win a fourth.

The 63-year-old hasn’t had a job in management since his four-year spell at the helm of the Scottish national team.

West Ham manager David Moyes is also a 5/1 shot and the joint-second favourite for the position. Moyes started his senior playing career at Celtic and has been linked with the job several times in the past.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke trails those three in the market at 6/1, while Hibs head coach Jack Ross is another contender at 9/1.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “There’s been a flurry of activity in our Celtic manager market over the past week or so, with Celtic’s poor form seeing fans desert Neil Lennon.

“Last night’s shocking result in the Europa League has caught the eye of punters again, but the price hasn’t budged on favourite Eddie Howe since that big movement in the market last week.”

Next Celtic manager odds:

  • Eddie Howe 11/1
  • David Moyes 5/1
  • Gordon Strachan 5/1
  • Steve Clarke 6/1
  • John Kennedy 9/1
  • Henrik Larsson 10/1
  • Jack Ross 12/1
