Diego Costa next club odds: Wolves and Arsenal favourites to sign fiery striker

Diego Costa is in search of a new club after it was confirmed his contract had been terminated by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday morning. Wolves are currently the favourites to sign the Spain international at 6/4, with Arsenal also short in the market at 3/1.

The controversial striker reached a mutual agreement to end his time at Atleti early due to personal reasons and is now on the hunt for a new club in the January window.

Costa shot to stardom thanks to his first spell at the La Liga club, where he scored 43 goals in 94 appearances between 2010 and 2014 before securing a move to Chelsea.

After winning two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge, the 32-year-old re-joined Atletico in January 2018. His second spell at the club has been plagued by injuries and he’s been unable to recapture his past form.

Costa has previously been linked with a move to Wolves due to connections with his agent Jorge Mendes, though those rumours turned out to be false. Molineux appears to be a more realistic destination for him now with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side struggling for goals in the absence of Raul Jimenez.

Move to China or Brazil a possibility for Costa

Elsewhere in the market to sign Costa, any Chinese Super League club is priced at 4/1, while a move to any Brazilian club follows at 3/1. Costa is a dual citizen of Brazil and Spain and represented the Brazilian national team initially before switching to Spain.

A reunion with Jose Mourinho is a possibility, with Tottenham priced at 12/1 in the market, while an unlikely return to Chelsea is 20/1.

  • Any Chinese Super League club 4/1

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “There’s always fireworks with Diego Costa and I would be lying if I said it wouldn’t be fun to see him back in the Premier League.

“Wolves have sorely missed a focal point in their attack since the injury to Raul Jimenez, so an emergency move for Costa could make sense. However, he was one of the highest earners at Atleti, so you wouldn’t rule out a move further afield if the right offer arrives from China.”
