Next Sheffield Wednesday manager odds: Gus Poyet, Jose Morais and Thorsten Fink favourites
Gus Poyet is currently the 9/4 favourite to take over as the next Sheffield Wednesday manager, following the sacking of Tony Pulis. Former Vissel Kobe manager Thorsten Fink is also short in the market, at a best price of 5/2.
Sheffield Wednesday have sacked manager Tony Pulis after just 45 days in charge. Having taken the position left vacant by Garry Monk just last month, he managed the side for only 10 games and achieved one win in that time.
Bookmakers had installed Jose Morais as the early favourite for the job, but he’s since drifted. Jose Mourinho’s former assistant is now a best price of 5/1, but as short as 13/5 joint-favourite in places.
Morais was at Mourinho’s side at Porto, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea. His rather eclectic CV also includes a more recent three-month spell at Barnsley in 2018, with his last job in the South Korean K League 1 coming to an end this month.
Sheffield Wednesday odds-on to be relegated with several bookmakers
Sheffield Wednesday sit one point off the bottom of the Championship table and are currently the third favourites to be relegated. They’re a best price of 11/8, but as short as odds-on with several bookmakers.
Elsewhere in the market to replace Pulis, ex-Reading boss Mark Bowen is priced at 4/1 with one bookmaker, but isn’t in the running with others.
Former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook is also 4/1 with a couple of bookmakers, but a best price of 8/1.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Sheffield Wednesday are in turmoil this season and sacking an experienced manager after just 45 days in charge is the latest catastrophe.
“The appointment of Pulis raised eyebrows last month, and the latest favourites for the job might raise a few more. Gus Poyet’s last job ended in meltdown at Bordeaux in 2018 and in a three-month spell at Barnsley in 2018, Jose Morais had a 20% win rate before the club were relegated.”
