The Ballon d'Or is set to return in 2021 after a year's absence and the race for football's most prestigious individual prize is heating up.
A 30-man shortlist will be drawn up in October, which will be reduced to a final three-man shortlist closer to the event.
Who is the favourite to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or
The current favourite at 9/2 is PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, who has had an impressive 2021 so far, winning the Coupe de France & Trophee des Champions, whilst collecting 28 goal and four assists.
Following just behind him is Polish international Robert Lewandowski at 9/4. Lewandowski recently broke Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga’s record by scoring 41 league goals in a single season and winning the league with Bayern in the process.
Mbappe’s international teammate N’Golo Kante has had his odds slashed to third-favourite at 5/1, after his crucial Champions League displays that allowed Chelsea to win their second European title.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated this trophy in recent years but find themselves 7/1 and 10/1 respectively in the bookies’ eyes.
