Who will be the first English manager to win the Premier League?

Who will be the first English manager to win the Premier League?

Four Italians, two Scots, a Chilean, a Portuguese, a Spaniard, a Frenchman and a German have won It already. oddschecker look at who could be the first Englishman to make history.

Who will be the first English manager to win the Premier League?

With just 11 total members, the club of Premier League winning managers is an illustrious one, with no Englishmen in it at the time of writing.

However, with Steven Gerrard’s move to the biggest league in the world, bookies have now priced up which Englishman will be the first to hoist the trophy.

Winning his first title last season with Rangers, bookies are backing the Scouse legend to go one better – and win the Premier League before his managerial compatriots.

Who are the favourites?

Bookies have priced Gerrard at 6/1 clear favourite to be the first English manager to win the league, over double as likely as the next in the market.

Recently appointed Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is next up in the betting at 14/1, with investment readily available to him at the Tyneside club.

Another manager with the same price as Howe, bookies believe Graham Potter (14/1) could be destined for big things. The Brighton boss is as short as 20/1 to be named the next Manchester United manager.

Perennially linked with vacant Premier League jobs, Frank Lampard is next up in the betting at 16/1, followed by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate (20/1).

Who are the other contenders?

Fulham’s Scott Parker is 25/1 in the market, followed by recently sacked Aston Villa gaffer Dean Smith (50/1).

All-time England goalscorer Wayne Rooney is next up at the bookies priced at 66/1, followed by Chris Wilder (150/1) and Sean Dyche (150/1).

The bottom of the barrel, as far as bookies are concerned; Graeme Jones (500/1), Roy Hodgson (500/1), Sam Allardyce (500/1) and Steve Bruce (500/1) round off the market.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "Steven Gerrard defied the odds last year, guiding underdog Rangers to their 55th league title north of the border.

"That hasn't gone unnoticed at the bookies, with the recently appointed Aston Villa manager the clear favourite to be the first Englishman to win the Premier League.

"Whilst it's a tough ask at Villa - bookies also have him as the clear 6/4 favourite to eventually replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool -  going some way to explain why the price is so short."
