Ballon D'Or Odds 2022: Karim Benzema odds-on favourite after Champions League Final upset

Odds for Karim Benzema to win his first Ballon D’Or have been drastically cut following Real Madrid’s Champions League victory in Paris.

On a night to forget for Liverpool, Real Madrid once again reminded us of their ability to get the job done on the biggest stage, winning their 14th Champions League title at the Stade De France.

Madrid's 1-0 victory in Paris has had a big impact on the race for the Ballon D’Or with Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane making up the top three in the market.

After defeating Klopp’s Liverpool side last night, bookmakers expect Madrid’s talismanic centre forward to add the Ballon D’Or to his impressive list of honours. If Benzema scoops the award he would become only the second player outside of Messi and Ronaldo to win the award since 2008.

Benzema can currently be found at best odds of 4/11 despite being as short as 1/10 elsewhere. Mohamed Salah remains the Frenchman’s closest rival for the award at a best price of 10/1.

Real Madrid’s number nine has enjoyed an incredible season with his goal contributions leading Los Blancos to domestic and European glory. The Champion’s League has been a particularly happy hunting ground for the Ballon D’Or favourite with 15 goals in 12 games during the campaign, making him the competition's top goalscorer.

Benzema’s efforts in La Liga helped guide Real Madrid to a record 35th domestic title, he finished the season as the top goalscorer in the league with 27 goals.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has long been fancied for the award having been as short 7/2 on the 8th of May. However, as Liverpool’s quadruple aspirations drifted so did Salah’s odds to pick up his first Ballon D’Or.

Salah’s teammate, Sadio Mane, was also well backed to win the award prior to yesterday's final after bagging crucial goals in the FA Cup and Champions League semi-finals. Mane can now be found at best odds of 12/1 to pick up the coveted Ballon D’Or trophy.
