Nations League 2022/23 Odds, Favourites & Tournament Outsiders

With the third edition of the Nations League set to take place this weekend, we’ve taken a look at the favourites, outsiders and potential dark horses.

Nations League Favourites:

The current favourites to win the trophy are the current holders France, who can be found at the best price of 4/1. Didier Deschamps’ men certainly have the more favourable group in the A seeding, with his side facing the likes of Denmark, Croatia and Austria. Deschamps will be hoping to bounce back after their disappointing defeat to Switzerland which saw them crash out of Euro 2020 on penalties.

Next on the list we have Euro 2020 semi-finalists Spain, who can currently be found at the best price of 5/1 in the market. Luis Enrique’s side face a box office clash in their first fixture on June 2nd against Portugal and then face Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

On paper, this could be a very difficult group to navigate for Spain, having to face Ronaldo twice, an improving Switzerland and Czech Republic side who will be buoyed by their Euro 2020 performances.

Third on the favourites list is Gareth Southgate’s England who can be found at the best price of 8/1 but also as short as 6/1 in places. At first glance, Southgate’s Three Lions have found themselves in the “Group of Death” for this Nations League campaign having to face Hungary, Germany and defending European champions Italy.

Southgate has always taken this competition seriously and it’s a good chance to see how his squad matches up against the very best in Europe. The England manager has picked a squad with a mixture of youth and experience and will be hoping to learn a lot from this campaign with the World Cup just around the corner.

Nations League Outsiders:

The two stand out names that sit apart from the rest of the group are Germany and Portugal who both sit at 10/1. Germany are in the same group as England and going through somewhat of a rebuild with Hansi Flick at the helm. Flick will be hoping that his team can leave an impression in a tough group.

Portugal was the first winners of the competition back in 2019 and will be looking to add another tournament win to their impressive collection. They are in the same group as Spain who they’ve drawn against three times in their last three meetings and will feel fairly confident in their team’s ability.

Another team to keep an eye out for is the Netherlands who can be found at the best price of 11/1. The Netherlands finished second in 2019 and they are in a very winnable group with Belgium, Poland and Wales. Belgium are not the force that they use to be with an ageing cast and struggling backline still causing issues.

Poland will be tricky opposition but if they are able to nullify the threat of Lewandowski they should manage a comfortable win and Wales have other issues on their mind with their qualification to the World Cup certainly taking priority over the Nations League.
