Harry Maguire has been linked with a move away from Manchester United after being dropped for the win over Liverpool. But what do the odds tell us about his transfer options?
Chelsea
Chelsea are reportedly prioritising a deal for Leicester's Wesley Fofana, but the Foxes have so far taken a stubborn stance to selling the defender, most recently rejecting a £70 million bid. So, could Maguire (best price 11/1) be an alternative to the Frenchman?
Thomas Tuchel has shown this summer he is unafraid of spending big on 'older' players, shelling out more than £80 million combined for 27-year-old Raheem Sterling and 31-year-old Kalidou Koulibaly.
29-year-old Maguire has thrived for England – particularly at Euro 2020 - in a three-man defence preferred by Tuchel at Chelsea. Under that system for Gareth Southgate, he has typically played on the left side of the three - a position for the Blues vacated by Antonio Rudiger this summer.
Rudiger’s replacement Koulibaly scored in an encouraging display against Tottenham but was sent off in Chelsea’s chastening 3-0 defeat at Leeds.

Leicester City
Given the Foxes’ reluctance to spend in the transfer window so far, and the money Manchester United would demand for the man acquired for a world record fee for a defender just three years ago, you might think a return to Leicester is a non-starter.
Yet, if the club do end up sanctioning the sale of Fofana for a huge fee, the money would be there for Brendan Rodgers – assuming he holds on to his job long enough to reinvest (he leads the next manager to leave market at a best price 4/5).
Maguire made 69 Premier League appearances for Leicester City in a two-year spell, scoring five times, and has looked more comfortable playing in teams who defend deeper and invite pressure before looking to spring on the counter attack.
He is a best price 16/1 to land at Leicester by the time the transfer window closes on Thursday 1st September (worst price 12/1 with one bookmaker).
Pastures new in Europe
There have been some - so far unsubstantiated - rumours around Maguire making a move away from the Premier League this summer, with big clubs in both Spain and Italy reportedly interested. The bookmakers have priced a summer move to Inter Milan, Barcelona and Juventus at an identical 25/1.
