Champions League Odds: Tottenham Hotspur's odds shorten after favourable draw

oddschecker take a look at the latest odds for the Champions League following the group stage draw.

Antonio Conte will be pleased after the Champions League draw boosted Tottenham's chances, with bookmakers cutting odds for them to lift the trophy into as short as 14/1 from 22/1. Of those at the top of the market, Bayern Munich are likely to feel the most hard done by after drawing both Barcelona and Inter Milan in Group C.

Holders Real Madrid drew a favourable group, including RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic, and bookmakers have responded by cutting odds for them to retain the title into as short as 8/1 at time of writing.

Manchester City

Despite never winning the tournament, Manchester City are the favourites coming into this year’s competition once again (best price 11/4). They have crumbled under the pressure over the last few years but did make it to the final in 2021, eventually losing out to Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola is still searching for his first Champions League since 2011 and will be hoping his new signing Erling Haaland can lead the way to that this season. They will come into this year hoping to forget about last year’s semi-final loss to Real Madrid, where they conceded three dramatic late goals to throw away a comfortable lead. Is this the year they finally get over the line?

PSG

Despite having three of the best players in the world in their attack and one of the most decorated centre-backs ever, PSG - like City - are still yet to win the Champions League and were knocked out in the round of 16 by Real Madrid last year. With the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Sergio Ramos all proven Champions League winners in their squad, it is easy to see why they are among the favourites in 2022/23, with odds as short as 27/5 in places (6/1 best price).

However, there has been talks of a troubled dressing room in the French capital, with stars colliding over powers given to Kylian Mbappe in his new contract and a new manager at the helm having to try and manage these gigantic egos. PSG have a record of crumbling at the business end of the tournament, but with both Messi and Ramos’ experience in the later stages and both expected to be fully fit this season, could this be the year they take all the glory?

Liverpool

The 2022 finalists have not had a good start to the 22/23 league season, with two draws and a loss away to Manchester United in their three opening fixtures. Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking for a drastic change before the start of the Champions League season if they are with any hope of winning their seventh title and are currently third favourites to do so, sitting as short as 9/2.

They will be disappointed with their performance in last year’s final as they didn’t manage to capitalise on any of their nine shots on target and conceded from just two shots on target. They have a slightly different squad this time round, with Sadio Mane moving to Bayern Munich and replaced with Darwin Nunez. Despite these changes to the squad and their poor start to the season they will remain strong favourites should they start the group stage well.

Bayern Munich

The German Champions last won the Champions League in 2020 where they won their sixth title in dominant fashion. They come into this tournament as fourth favourites at 7/1 and will be looking to win their seventh title just like Liverpool.

They will be incredibly disappointed at being knocked out by Villareal in the quarter-finals last season and will be looking to put things right this year. Despite losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, they have started their Bundesliga season in good style, winning all three of their opening matches - scoring 15 and only conceding once. Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping his team can take this form into the start of the Champions League season.

Real Madrid

The reigning champions won their 14th title last year and solidified their spot at the top of European football. They recently beat Frankfurt 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup and have carried that form into the La Liga season, winning both of their opening fixtures.

This could be a period of transition for Real, with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni set to replace the ageing Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, with Casemiro already moving on to Manchester United. Despite this, they still remain one of the favourites for this year’s Champions League, albeit at an attractive best price of 12/1 (8/1 in places).

Carlo Ancelotti remains the only manager to win four Champions League titles and will be looking to make it his fifth this year. With Vinicius Junior now becoming the player he’s been tipped to become for years and the addition of quality young players from across Europe, this is a real possibility.
