Cristiano Ronaldo Next Club Odds: Chelsea 4/1 for January move ahead of Ronaldo’s Sheriff return

Cristiano Ronaldo is 4/1 to sign for Chelsea before the end of January as he makes his Manchester United return against Sheriff in the Europa League.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has this week reiterated that Ronaldo is available to play against FC Sheriff in the Europa League tonight having been sufficiently punished for his petulance on the substitutes bench against Spurs in the Premier League.

The 37-year-old refused to come on towards the end of that game, instead choosing to leave the bench and walk down the tunnel before the final whistle.

However, talk of a January transfer refuses to go away, particularly as Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial continue to keep him out of ten Hag’s preferred XI in the biggest matches.

Who are the favourites to sign Ronaldo in January?

Chelsea remain the likeliest option for Ronaldo (4/1) should he leave Old Trafford in January. The Blues have failed to find a consistent goalscorer in recent years, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the latest to don the supposed ‘cursed’ number 9 shirt after Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain, Tammy Abraham and Romelu Lukaku.

33-year-old Aubameyang has scored three times in nine matches so far but has already been the subject of unsubstantiated rumours suggesting a transfer to PSG is at an advanced stage.

At the time of writing, the only other clubs priced up to sign Ronaldo in January are Sporting Lisbon (7/1) and Atletico Madrid (18/1).

Just this week, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim - an early frontrunner in the next Wolves manager odds market - said that resigning Ronaldo to his first club was a dream but admitted they can't afford to pay his wages.

Atletico, meanwhile, were linked with a move for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in the summer, at which time president Enrique Cerezo labelled a move for Ronaldo as "practically impossible".

So, it would appear to be Chelsea or stay put for Ronaldo in January.

Can he convince ten Hag that he’s worthy of a place in the first choice Manchester United XI? Or can he alert more potential suitors with a goalscoring performance against FC Sheriff tonight?

If you fancy Ronaldo to open the scoring, the Acca Scout has picked out a key statistic!
