We check on the favourites for the 2022 World Cup top individual awards as we approach the final later today.
Golden Ball And Golden Boot Odds
Lionel Messi
Favourite for the Golden Ball at 2/9 and favourite for the Golden Boot at 10/11, Lionel Messi could win both awards as well as get his hands on the World Cup Trophy. It would be a moment to savour for the neutral fan, seeing one of the greatest players of all time bow out from the world stage having won the trophy that has eluded him so far in his career.
Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe comes just behind Messi for both the Golden Ball, with a best price of 11/2 for that accolade, as well as 45/23 for the Golden Boot. Mbappe has been a starlet in France’s run to the final, scoring five goals, but he didn’t score in the Quarter Final or Semi Final, which might have hurt his chances as either accolade. He can still make the ultimate impact in the final to bring home the trophy for his country, as they look to win back to back tournaments.

Antoine Griezmann
Despite being a longshot for the Golden Boot, due to his lack of goals in the tournament, Griezmann is a best price of 12/1 for the Golden Ball. He has undoubtly been France’s best player and has gone under the radar massively. He has picked up three assists, two of which coming against England to help France past their arguably toughest opponent on their run to the final. A similar performance in the final could steer the accolade his way, although that would be a big shock, with Mbappe and Messi set to compete for that.
Julian Alvarez
Alvarez will need to have an excellent final to claim either the Golden Boot or the Golden Ball. He is out siders for both prizes, but with four goals, he is only one behind Messi and Mbappe in that award. He is a best price of 27/1 for the Golden Boot, which highlights how unlikely he is to topple Messi or Mbappe in that market.
Olivier Giroud
Very similar to Alvarez, Giroud is on four goals for the tournament, and is again an outsider for both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball, with a best price of 27/1 for the Golden Boot. He has scored some crucial goals and became France’s all time top goalscorer in the process, a fantastic return for a player many deemed as second place behind Karim Benzema prior to his injury.
