Next Everton Manager Odds: Duncan Ferguson emerges as big rival to Sean Dyche

Club legend Duncan Ferguson has emerged as a big rival to Sean Dyche in the next Everton manager odds market.

Following Everton’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham, Frank Lampard has been sacked as Everton manager, with their side now deep in the relegation dogfight and bottom of the table.

Everton haven’t won in eight successive Premier League games, meaning the Toffees have had to let Lampard go. He managed to bring the club away from relegation last season at the expense of Burnley, but with Everton right amongst the bottom three once again, the change in results haven’t arrived for Lampard, and the defeat to fellow strugglers West Ham was the end of the road.

Everton have won the least games in the Premier League this season - less than any other team in the top four tiers of English football - and with the January window about to close, Everton may want to bring in a replacement sharpish to steady what looks like a sinking ship at Goodison Park.

Who are the favourites to replace Frank Lampard?

Sean Dyche

The former Burnley manager has been out of a job since leaving Turf Moor last season. The 51-year-old was at Burnley from 2012 after Eddie Howe left to join Bournemouth.

He twice got Burnley twice promoted to the top division, and even got them into the Europa League after finishing 7th in the 2017/18 season.

He left Burnley after a dismal 2021/22 campaign at Turf Moor, in which the Clarets got relegated. He is a best price of 3/1 to join Everton, but can be found as short as 7/4.

Duncan Ferguson

'Big Dunc' (best price 4/1) is a popular figure at Goodison Park, having scored 60 league goals for the club as a player and served with distinction twice in a caretaker manager's role - most notably in a four-match unbeaten spell in December 2019. The 51-year-old Scotsman has been out of work since leaving Everton just under one year ago.

Marcelo Bielsa

The former Leeds United manager who was sacked last season, is in at a best price of 13/2 to become the next Everton manager, but can be found as short as 10/3.

Bielsa brought Leeds up and finished as high as 9th in their first season before parting ways with the Yorkshire club in February 2022, leaving them in 16th in the Premier League table. Can his high energy football bring some life back to Goodison Park?

David Moyes

The current West Ham manager is a best price of 10/1 to move from the London Stadium back to Goodison Park, where he managed for 10 years before Joining Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement.

West Ham have been struggling despite their win over Everton last weekend, and Moyes could also be on the way out soon, which could make him a perfect replacement to get him back for the Toffees. It might be an option that the fans would see as unambitious, but he could definitely help them to steer clear of the relegation zone for another season.

Wayne Rooney

The former Everton player is also been linked with the role. He is currently a best price of 17/2 and is certainly not the favourite for the job, as it would be seen as a huge gamble from the Everton board to appoint Rooney. His only managerial role in England was at Derby, where despite his best efforts, he was unable to save the club from relegation to League One.

The England legend is currently managing at D.C United, where he spent almost two years as a player and has been in charge since July 2022.

Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno Espirito Santo has been managing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad since remarkably leaving Tottenham after just four months and 17 games. His main Premier League highlights came from his time at Wolves, where he got Wolves promoted in his first season, helping them to finish 7th in the 2018-19 season.

His last job in the Premier League at Spurs started with Espirito Santo winning the Manager of the Month for the fourth time, but slowly fell away after just a few weeks, and was sacked in November after a poor run. He is 14/1 to be the next Everton manager.
