Premier League Relegation Odds: Everton, Leicester & Leeds in for last day drama

We look at what each team at risk of relegation needs to survive on the final day.

After 37 matches of Premier League football, it comes down to the final day to settle the last two relegation places.

Everton, Leicester and Leeds are all still in danger of dropping into the Championship after what has been a tumultuous season for all three sides. All three have changed their manager at some point during the campaign, and Leeds have done it twice in their desperation to stay up.

Southampton have already been relegated, while two of the aforementioned sides will join them by around 18:30 on Sunday. All three sides play at home on the final day in what will be a nervy final match of the season.

What do Everton need to stay up?

Everton, a best price of 10/3 for relegation (1/4 to stay up), know that a win against Bournemouth will mean they will be competing in next year’s Premier League and will avoid the drop in the final games for the second year in a row.

It’s been a turbulent couple of seasons for them, struggling to find managers capable to get them away from the relegation zone, but three points against the Cherries will confirm survival. They can also survive even if they fail to win: Everton will stay up whatever the result if both Leeds and Leicester fail to win.

With that in mind, Leicester (best price of 4/1 to stay up) and Leeds (best price of 12/1 to stay up) both must win to stand a chance of survival. Dean Smith’s side haven’t won in their last five games, while Leeds haven’t won in their last eight games, but they’ll have to buck those trends if they want to avoid the drop.

What do Leicester need to stay up?

Leicester, who pulled off the greatest ever underdog story of the Premier League era in 2016 and took home the FA Cup trophy in 2021, will avoid the drop if they win and Everton fail to win, as goal difference plays into their hands with the Foxes on -18 and the Toffees on -24. Anything but a win for them and Leicester will go down.

They host West Ham in their final day fixture, who may look to rest players ahead of their Europa Conference League final in June. The Hammers beat Leeds 3-1 in their latest fixture and that result could be crucial if the Foxes are to stay up.

They could have nicked a win late on, but their draw away at Newcastle means that they have a better chance of survival on the final day. Again, should they fail to win, they’ll drop into the Championship for the first time since 2014.

What do Leeds need to stay up?

As for Leeds, their goal difference is slightly worse than Everton’s with -27, so there is a small chance that they still go down with a win, if Leicester win and Everton draw.

They are at Elland Road against Tottenham, 4-0 winners in this same fixture last season, who need to win if they want European football next season. It could also be Harry Kane’s last game for Spurs as he has been touted with a move away from Tottenham this summer.

Leeds’ away form in the campaign has been a factor as to why they are so low, with only Nottingham Forest picking up less points on the road this season. They have also conceded 74 goals this season, making that 153 goals conceded over the last two league seasons.
