Next Leicester Manager Odds: Maresca & Parker lead the race to replace Smith

Enzo Maresca and Scott Parker are leading the race to become Leicester City manager if the board decide not to extend Dean Smith’s short-term deal.

52-year-old Dean Smith failed in his eight-week mission to save the Foxes from relegation just seven years after the club’s momentous Premier League title win.

Leicester picked up just nine points across the final eight matches, including a final day win over West Ham which ultimately wasn’t enough to save them.

Will Smith be trusted with the job of getting them back up to the big time?

Who is the favourite to manage Leicester in the 2023/24 season?

Enzo Maresca

As shown by the table above, a man in demand is Enzo Maresca, who is also reportedly locked in a battle with Brendan Rodgers to replace Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

Manchester City assistant manager Maresca (19/10) has not had much experience in a top job, having also been an assistant coach at Sevilla and West Ham.

The 43-year-old has been one of Pep Guardiola's assistants since June 2022, returning to the club he had previously served as manager of their Elite Development Squad team after a brief spell in charge of Italian side Parma.

Despite a team including former international stars such as Gianluigi Buffon and Franco Vázquez, Maresca's Parma reign lasted just 14 games before he was dismissed in November 2021.

As a player, he was part of the Juventus side which won Serie A in 2002, while he also won the Copa del Rey and two UEFA Cups at Sevilla from 2005 to 2007.

Scott Parker

At the time of writing, Scott Parker is narrowly edged out as second favourite with the bookmakers to manage Leicester City going into the 2023/24 Championship season.

The 42-year-old is out of a job once again having been sacked by Club Brugge in March after just 12 matches in charge of the Belgian side. That was his first post since leaving Bournemouth shortly after a 9-0 defeat at Liverpool last August.

Dean Smith

As shown by the table above, Smith (best price 9/4) is still being considered by the Leicester board despite failing to save them from Premier League relegation. Smith took Aston Villa up from the Championship via the Playoffs in 2019, beating Derby County in the final at Wembley.

Ruud van Nistelrooy

The legendary Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is an eye-catching inclusion in the next Leicester manager odds market. The 46-year-old, who plundered 150 goals in just five seasons with the Red Devils (95 in the Premier League) is out of work after leaving PSV.

Having only been appointed as the replacement for the outgoing Roger Schmidt in March 2022, van Nistelrooy oversaw just 51 games in all competitions - winning 33 of them. He resigned with one match remaining in the 2022–23 Eredivisie season, citing a lack of support.
