Premier League Predictions: Fewer than 50% of fans back Man United Top 4 Finish

Fewer than 50% of fans who entered the Million Pound Predictor over the weekend believe Man United will finish in the Top 4 of the Premier League.

Having laboured to a 1-0 win over Wolves in their Premier League opener a week ago, Man United were still fancied by 75% of football fans to finish in the Top 4 on Sunday 19th May.

Man United Top 4 Odds

However, over the last three days that figure has dropped to just 45% as Erik ten Hag’s side produced another uninspiring performance in defeat to Spurs, themselves backed by 8% of fans to gatecrash the Top 4 since Friday having received minimal backing beforehand (now up to 3% total).

The beneficiaries of United’s slow start are likelier to be Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

Despite losing narrowly at the Etihad on Saturday night, the Magpies have been in the Top 4 for 45% of predictors over the last three days – up from 18% across the first 10 days of the competition. 91% now think Newcastle will finish in the Top 6 – up from 74% before the second weekend of action.

This data is taken from oddschecker's Million Pound Predictor - a free to play game where football fans can win £1 million for accurately forecasting the final 2023/24 Premier League standings.

Premier League Predictions: Forest backed for survival

Meanwhile, the data indicates improved confidence in Nottingham Forest’s battle to beat the drop in 2023/24. Going into their Friday night fixture at home to Sheffield United, 80% of fans backed them to finish outside the bottom three, up to 90% in the time since their 2-1 victory.

Another team to register their first points were Aston Villa, who crushed Everton 4-0 at Villa Park on Sunday. However, the average predicted position for Unai Emery’s side has dropped since Friday to 9th (8.2 total average), owing partly to Brighton’s second consecutive convincing victory.

The Seagulls’ average predicted position is now up from outside the top 8 to 7.7.
