Next Cambridge United Manager Odds: Neil Harris favourite for U’s role

Following the sacking of Mark Bonner earlier today, Neil Harris has emerged as the favourite in the next Cambridge United manager odds market.

Cambridge United have confirmed the departure of Mark Bonner after almost four years as manager.

Bonner kept Cambridge in League One on the final day of last season, and they are currently 18th in the league. He had agreed a new long term contract in September, but the current run of form has got the Cambridge hierarchy looking elsewhere, hoping to arrest their slide down the table.

The top five favourites in the next Cambridge manager odds market.

Neil Harris

Former Gillingham manager Neil Harris is the favourite to take over at Cambridge, following his sacking from the Gills back in October. He is a best price of 4/1 on BetVictor.

The former Millwall and Cardiff City boss had been in charge at Gillingham since January 2022, and is the favourite to takeover at Cambridge, with the U’s 18th in League One.

Steve Cotterill

Steve Cotterill is a Football League stalwart in some regards, managing nine clubs over the last 25 years. His latest challenge was at Shrewsbury, where he left at the end of last season in June 2023.

The former League One Manager of the year and three time League One Manager of the month is 5/1 to join Cambridge.

Cotterill guided Shrewsbury to 12th in League One last season, but with Cambridge further down towards the drop, it would be an impressive task to boost them further up the table.

Danny Cowley

Next in the running is Danny Cowley, who was most recently manager of Portsmouth but was relieved of his duties at the start of this year with Pompey in 12th.

He was League Two manager of the year in 2019 at Lincoln City, where he earned the Imps promotion to League One. He was also awarded Manager of the Month in August 2022 at Portsmouth. Cowley is 6/1 to take the vacant position at Cambridge United.

Gareth Ainsworth

Wycombe Wanderers legend Gareth Ainsworth is also touted for the vacant job after his recent departure of Queens Park Rangers.

Ainsworth lasted over 10 years at Wycombe before moving to QPR, where he struggled to make a name for himself. He was sacked at the end of October after a 2-1 defeat to Leicester, which was the clubs sixth consecutive defeat which left QPR just above the bottom of the league after 14 games.

He will be more remembered for his work at Wycombe, where he took Wycombe to the play off final in his final full season in 2021-22. Ainsworth is 8/1 for the Cambridge position.

Karl Robinson

Karl Robinson, who was most recently in charge of Oxford United, spending five years at the Kassam Stadium, is the next favourite for the role at Cambridge.

Along with the work at Oxford, he also managed MK Dons for six years, where he got the Dons promoted to the Championship in 2015 and also masterminded a 4-0 win over Manchester United. He also had a stint at Charlton, so he is an experienced manager who Cambridge fans should be able to get behind if appointed. You can back Robinson at 10/1.
