Newcastle have been heavily backed to sign Bournemouth’s in-form striker in January.
Dominic Solanke, the 26-year-old Bournemouth striker capped once by England in 2017, might just be on the move again in the January transfer window.
That’s according to latest odds from William Hill, who have slashed the striker from 20/1 into 6/4 in the last 24 hours to join Newcastle before the end of the transfer window. The price change implies a shift of less than 5% likely to 40% likely he swaps the south coast for the north east.
However, he remains available for 2/1 to join Newcastle this month on Sky Bet (33% chance), market leaders in the Solanke next club odds market through oddschecker.
Solanke is enjoying his best season to date in the top flight, having scored 12 goals in Bournemouth’s 19 matches so far (13 in 20 if you include the one he scored pre-abandonment at Luton). He has nine in his last 11 matches including a hat-trick in the Cherries’ 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest.
Despite his marked improvement (only Haaland and Salah have a greater xG than Solanke), data from WhoScored.com has revealed a couple of key weaknesses in the striker’s overall game.
Solanke is top for both dispossessed (53) and unsuccessful first touches leading to a turnover in possession (74) in the Premier League this season.
Dominic Solanke January Transfer Odds
Newcastle have emerged as the clear favourites to sign Solanke (2/1), but Arsenal have also been given a greater than 10% chance of securing his signature this month (best price 8/1). Tottenham have drifted from 8/1 to 10/1 having brought in Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig.
Liverpool are the market outsiders at 33/1 on William Hill to re-sign Solanke. The Reds will reportedly receive 20% of any fee for the player, negotiated as part of the sale to Bournemouth in January 2019.
