Willy Sagnol, the current manager of the Georgian national team, has become the top contender with the bookies to succeed Stephen Kenny as the new Ireland head coach.
Previous odds-on favourite, Lee Carsley, announced on Wednesday that he will be remaining as the head coach of the England under-21’s.
In response, bookmakers swiftly adjusted Carsley’s odds from 4/6 favourite to the third position at 9/1 (best price at Paddy Power and Betfair).
With Carsley’s withdrawal, Sagnol now leads as the bookmakers' choice for the Ireland job, with his odds slashed from 4/1 to 6/4 over the past 24 hours.
Gus Poyet, currently head coach of the Greece national team, is now the 5/1 (best price at Betvictor) second favourite in the betting.
Poyet is ahead of the likes of Anthony Barry (10/1), John O’Shea and Robbie Keane (both 12/1).
Looking at the oddschecker betting data, Willy Sagnol has been the most popular bet with us, taking 34% of bets over the past 24 hours.

Leon Blackman from oddschecker said: “Another twist in the Republic of Ireland next manager saga as the odds-on favourite, Lee Carsley, committed himself to the England under-21’s role on Wednesday.
"Bookies have now named their new favourite for the role, the Georgian national team manager, Willy Sagnol. Sagnol’s odds were cut from 5/1 to 6/4 after the news around Carsley and has taken the highest number of bets over the past 24 hours to be the next Ireland manager (34%).”
