Next Man United Manager Odds: Potter given 20% chance as pressure mounts on ten Hag

A loss against Chelsea tonight will see pressure mount on Eirk ten Hag as the hierarchy at Man United is overhauled.

Despite plenty of results going Man United’s way recently, Erik ten Hag’s side’s performances have been far from convincing.

There recent 1-1 draw with Brentford characterised this as the Red Devils were dominated from kick off to final whistle by the Bees who managed to rack up an xG of 3.16 vs United’s 0.99 as United conceded an astonishing 31 shots against relegation candidates, Brentford.

This seems to have been the story of Man United’s season as they sit in 14th in the expected points table despite being 6th in the League.

As they prepare to face a Chelsea side that have been scoring freely recently. The Dutchman will need to avoid a repeat of their last performance to prevent pressure mounting as new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe watches on.

A loss in this fixture will all but confirm their failure to qualify for next years Champions League as they sit 11 points off of 4th placed Aston Villa with 10 games to play.

The British Billionaire has already demonstrated his ruthlessness in his reorganisation of the United hierarchy as he attempts to revamp the club with a behind-the-scenes overhaul.

He has already poached Omar Berrada from rivals Man City to serve as CEO and are said to be after both Dan Ashworth from Newcastle to be their new sporting director and Jason Wilcox from Southampton to be technical director.

With performances on the pitch not quite up to standard and Ratcliffe showing a willingness to make changes behind the scenes, the question remains as to who will lead United in the near future.

Next Man United Manager Odds: Who are the favourites?

Gareth Southgate currently leads the betting at a best price of 5/2 (Paddy Power and Betfair) which gives the current England manager a 29% chance however, he can found as short as 6/4 at Bet Victor (an implied chance of 40%).

The Englishman will likely be available going into next season as he has alluded to the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament being his last with the English national team. Perhaps success in Germany will make him a worthy candidate for the United hierarchy.

Trailing him is fellow Englishman and former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter. He has a best price of 4/1 currently (an implied chance if 20%) but can be found as short as 5/2 (an implied chance of 29%)

The 48-year-old has been out of work since his season-long spell at Chelsea ended in April of the 22/23 season as Chelsea finished 12th in the league.

However, Manchester United’s new owner, Ratcliffe may be willing to overlook his failures at Chelsea. He was rumoured to have previously been involved in discussions with Ratcliffe’s French side Nice, which may give him the edge over the other potential candidates.

Third favourite is current Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim who is heavily linked with the Liverpool job following the news that Xabi Alonso will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen.

He has made big waves in the managerial world after securing Lisbon their first title in 19 years in his first full season. He can found at 10/1 at Sky Bet.
