Next Chelsea Manager Odds: Is the mystery man Ruben Amorim or Cesc Fabregas?

Chelsea have drawn up a shortlist of managers to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

It was reported yesterday that Chelsea had drawn up a four-man shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino, comprising Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and a fourth 'mystery' contender.

The next Chelsea manager odds market has been swinging in different ways since Pochettino parted ways with the club despite overseeing a strong second half of the season for the Blues, who came through the pack to finish 6th ahead of Newcastle and Man United.

Chelsea will play in the Europa League next season should the favourites Manchester City emerge victorious in Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley.

Meanwhile, the Blues will contest the Europa Conference League if Man United upset the odds and beat City, with Erik ten Hag’s side claiming a Europa League spot and leaving Newcastle without European football.

As soon as Pochettino departed, former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was installed as the bookmakers' favourite but the Italian has since drifted to a best price of 5/1 through oddschecker.

De Zerbi remains inside the top four of the betting, where he is joined by McKenna and Maresca but not Brentford manager Thomas Frank (14/1 bet365).

Instead, the fourth favourite - and the possible mystery contender - is Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim, who was once touted as the likeliest replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Amorim is in from 12/1 to 3/1 on bet365 but remains a best price 7/1 through Ladbrokes in the bubbling next Chelsea manager odds market.

He has just won a second league title with Sporting since joining in 2020. During his time in the Portuguese capital, the former Benfica player ended the club’s 19-year wait for a title (2020/21), adding two Taca De Liga trophies and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 2021.

In the six seasons prior to his appointment, Sporting had finished in the top two on just one occasion. In the same six-year period, Sporting averaged 74 points in the league, while in his four full campaigns with Sporting the team have averaged 84 points (90 in 2023/24).

Meanwhile, another possible mystery man is the club's former player Cesc Fabregas, cut to 12/1 by BetVictor having been 25/1 the day before.

A two-time Premier League winner with Chelsea, he remains 25/1 on Sky Bet and Paddy Power. Fabregas made 198 appearances for the club in all competitions across five seasons, scoring 22 goals (15 in the league).

He has only recently been surpassed for the second most assists in Premier League history by Kevin de Bruyne. Ryan Giggs is way out in front at the top.
